Tally: Split & Settle (“Tally” or “the App”), operated by Luca Trivisonno, a sole proprietorship carrying on business as Tally Technologies ("we," "us," "our") in Ontario, Canada, is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly when using Tally:

Account Information

  • Name and email address

  • Phone number (if using phone authentication)

  • Profile picture (optional)

  • Authentication credentials

Financial Information

  • Expense descriptions, amounts, and categories

  • Payment and settlement records between group members

  • Receipt photos you choose to upload

  • Group balances and debt calculations

Usage Information

  • Groups you create or join

  • Activity logs (expenses added, settlements made)

  • Notification preferences

  • Device push notification tokens

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain Tally's expense splitting features

  • Calculate and display balances between you and group members

  • Send notifications about expenses, settlements, and payment reminders

  • Process subscription payments through the App Store or Google Play

  • Send transactional emails (welcome, password reset, activity updates)

  • Improve our services and develop new features

  • Respond to your support requests

3. Information Sharing

We share your information only in the following circumstances:

With Group Members

Your name, expenses, and balance information are visible to members of groups you join. This is essential for the expense splitting functionality.

With Service Providers

We use trusted third-party services to operate Tally:

  • Supabase - Database hosting, user authentication, and file storage

  • RevenueCat - Subscription and payment processing

  • Resend - Transactional email delivery

  • Expo - Push notification delivery

These providers only access your data as necessary to perform their services and are bound by confidentiality obligations.

We Never

  • Sell your personal information to third parties

  • Share your data with advertisers

  • Use your financial data for purposes unrelated to the app

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely on Supabase cloud servers with encryption at rest and in transit. Receipt photos are stored in secure cloud storage with access limited to you and your group members.

We implement industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, secure authentication tokens, and Row Level Security on our database to ensure your data is protected.

5. Your Rights and Choices

You have control over your data:

  • Access and update your profile information anytime

  • Manage email notification preferences in Settings

  • Control push notifications through your device settings

  • Leave groups to remove your association with that group's data

  • Delete your account and all associated data permanently

To delete your account, go to Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, expenses, group memberships, and all associated data.

6. Device Permissions

Tally may request the following device permissions:

  • Camera - To photograph receipts for expense records

  • Photo Library - To attach existing photos as receipts

  • Notifications - To send expense and payment alerts

These permissions are optional and only used when you choose to use the related features. You can revoke permissions anytime in your device settings.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. When you delete your account, we immediately and permanently delete all your personal information, including your profile, expenses, group memberships, and uploaded photos.

8. Children's Privacy

Tally is not intended for users under 4 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 4. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

9. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email. Your continued use of Tally after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
